Bodie, California, is a genuine Wild West ghost town. Established in 1859 when Willian S. Bodey discovered gold there, it grew to around 10,000 people in 1880. At one time there were said to be 65 saloons, as well as several "houses of ill repute"!
Once the mines were exhausted, people began to leave town. At the onset of World War II the last residents left.
Bodie is now a California State Park, and there are around 150 buildings still preserved.
